Liquid Ring Vacuum Trucks for Rent

A liquid ring vacuum truck is a vacuum truck built around a liquid-ring (liquid-seal) pump, which spins a ring of sealant liquid to create a strong, continuous vacuum. It is designed to move heavy liquids, slurry, sludge, and produced water, which makes it a standard tool for oilfield and industrial jobs.

A liquid ring vacuum truck is a vacuum truck powered by a liquid-ring pump, a design that spins a ring of sealant liquid (usually water or oil) inside the pump housing to generate a strong, continuous vacuum. Unlike a positive-displacement (PD) blower, the liquid seal lets the pump swallow moisture, vapor, and slugs of liquid without damage, so it can hold deep vacuum all day on wet loads.

That makes the liquid ring vacuum truck a workhorse for oilfield and industrial work: hauling produced water and crude, cleaning out drilling mud, frac tanks, and pits, and vacuuming sludge, slurry, and tank bottoms at plants and refineries. Tanks are commonly code-built (DOT 407/412 or CSA B620 / TC-406) so the truck can carry regulated and hazardous liquids, and cold-weather units run heated bodies and glycol pump seals for winter service. Common builders in this class include Presvac, Cusco, Foremost, Guzzler, and Vac-Con.

How it works

Inside a liquid ring pump, an impeller spins off-center in a cylindrical housing partly filled with sealant liquid. As the impeller turns, centrifugal force throws the liquid outward into a moving ring against the housing wall; because the impeller is offset, the space between the vanes and the liquid ring grows and shrinks with each rotation, drawing air in and then compressing and expelling it. That liquid seal is what sets the machine apart. It tolerates the moisture, vapor, and liquid carryover that would damage a dry blower, so the truck pulls a deep, steady vacuum on wet material. The load is drawn up a suction hose into a code-built tank, and the collected liquid or slurry is later discharged at an approved disposal or transfer site.

Pump seal fluid
water or oil (glycol for cold-weather service)

What a liquid ring vacuum truck is used for

Oilfield produced water and crude hauling

Vacuums and transports produced water, crude, and other well-site fluids, holding continuous deep vacuum on high-liquid loads that would overwhelm a dry blower.

Drilling mud, cuttings, and tank bottoms

Cleans out mud tanks, pits, and heavy tank-bottom sludge on drilling and workover sites where the material is wet, thick, and abrasive.

Frac tank and pit cleanout

Empties and cleans frac tanks, containment pits, and sumps of standing liquid and settled slurry between jobs.

Industrial sludge and slurry removal

Removes process sludge, wastewater, and slurry at plants, refineries, and treatment facilities, including confined-space and turnaround work.

Hazardous and regulated liquid transport

With a DOT 407/412 or CSA B620 / TC-406 code tank, moves regulated or hazardous liquids under the appropriate transport and operator certifications.

Spill response and heavy liquid recovery

Recovers spilled oil, chemicals, and heavy liquids quickly, using the deep continuous vacuum to pull thick or emulsified material.

When to choose a liquid ring vacuum truck

Choose a liquid ring vacuum truck when the load is wet, carries vapor or moisture, or you need sustained deep vacuum on heavy liquids, slurry, and sludge, which is typical of oilfield and industrial work. If the material is mostly dry debris and you want higher airflow, an air vacuum truck or a PD-blower vacuum truck is a better fit, and if you need non-destructive digging around buried utilities, a hydrovac truck is the right tool. Not sure which pump suits your load? Submit a request and describe the material; rental companies can advise on the best unit and confirm the certifications required to haul it.

Liquid Ring Vacuum Truck rental FAQ

What is a liquid ring vacuum truck used for?+

It is used to vacuum and transport heavy liquids, slurry, sludge, and produced water. Because the liquid-ring pump uses a liquid seal, it can pull a deep, continuous vacuum on wet loads without being damaged by moisture or vapor, which is why it is a standard tool for oilfield and industrial work.

What is the difference between a liquid ring and a PD blower (air vac) vacuum truck?+

A liquid ring pump uses a spinning ring of sealant liquid, so it tolerates moisture and vapor and excels at heavy liquids and slurry with sustained deep vacuum. A positive-displacement (PD) blower or air vacuum truck moves more air and is better suited to dry material and longer-distance conveyance, but it does not handle liquid carryover as well. Pick liquid ring for wet loads and air/PD for dry material.

Can a liquid ring vacuum truck haul hazardous or oilfield liquids?+

Many can, when fitted with a code-built tank (commonly DOT 407/412 or CSA B620 / TC-406) and operated under the right certifications such as H2S Alive, TDG/WHMIS, and DOT. Requirements depend on the specific liquid and jurisdiction, so confirm the tank rating and operator credentials with the rental company before you book.

How much does it cost to rent a liquid ring vacuum truck?+

Vac4Rent does not set or publish rental rates. You submit one request and rental companies serving your area reply directly by email or phone with their pricing and availability. There is no commission and there are no booking fees; rates are handled off-platform between you and the rental company.

What tank size or capacity should I rent?+

Liquid ring vacuum trucks commonly run from about 2,500 to 5,500 gallons (roughly 60 to 130 barrels). Match capacity to your load volume and haul distance so you minimize trips, and factor in the disposal or transfer site. Share your volume and material in your request and rental companies can recommend a suitable unit.

How do I rent one through Vac4Rent?+

Submit a rental request describing your job, location, timing, and the liquid or material you need to move. Vac4Rent connects you with rental companies serving that area, and they reply to you directly by email or phone. Vac4Rent is operated by the Hydrovac News family of brands with more than 34 years of industry experience.
